United Nations Expels Nationalist China in Dramatic Vote

The UN admitted Communist China and expelled Nationalist China by a 76 to 35 vote with 17 abstentions. U.S. Ambassador George Bush called it a moment of infamy as Chow Shu kai led the Nationalists to quit the body amid a near pandemonium in the General Assembly.

Hijacked Boeing 747 Lays Ground in Havana En Route to Puerto Rico

A Boeing 747 with 221 people aboard remained on the ground in Havana after being hijacked Monday night en route from New York to San Juan. Three sky marshals and an off duty FBI agent were unable to stop the hijacker and the plane may be released in the afternoon.

Brezhnev Visits Paris in Tours and Politics

Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev toured Paris on his first France visit in a lively, welcoming mood. He drank whisky with the city council head, greeted French Communist allies, and invited a blonde to Moscow as thousands cheered the jovial diplomat amid heavy police presence.

Norwalk Introduces Computer Based City Utility Billing

City Auditor Charles Hipp outlined new computer calculated utility bills to Norwalk residents. The plan combines electric water and sewer charges on a single statement with monthly water sewer billing, cycle billing, and staggered due dates to cut costs and speed processing. If needed residents may request separate billing. Billing uses meters read quarterly for water sewer with estimates in month one and two and true charges in month three.

Energy Costs To Double at Mining Convention

Steward Udall warned 1,200 delegates that energy costs could rise 75 to 100 percent in ten years and demand patterns must change. He said many items now common will become luxuries, recycling aluminum as a future metal, and doubted exotic energy sources can replace dwindling supplies.
