City Seeks Volunteers for Norwalk Ambulance Service

Norwalk seeks paid volunteers to operate an ambulance program modeled on Tiffin. City officials, including Service Director William Mount, are gauging interest from police fire personnel and residents. In Tiffin volunteers earn about 120 dollars for 160 hours plus extra pay for out of city runs, aiming to recruit sufficient personnel for feasibility.

Armed factions cross into Lebanon seize Tripoli in renewed clashes

About 300 armed men aided by armored cars artillery and mortars crossed from Syria into Lebanon and occupied a border area two miles inside. They seized control of half of Tripoli as guerrilla leaders demand overthrow of President Helou amid army crackdowns on Arab bases used for Israeli strikes.

Aircraft strikes truck on U S 30 near Mount Vernon

A Kokomo Indiana truck driver reported an airplane clipped the top of his westbound semi on U S 30 west of Mount Vernon. The plane flew away after the collision, causing about 1000 dollars in damage to the truck.

Television host Art Linkletter testified before the House crime committee denouncing the Beatles as advocates of an acid society. He cited his daughter Diana's suicide linked to LSD use, criticizing record companies and DJs he says promote drug culture, and accusing Timothy Leary of contributing to harm. A related confrontation with student demonstrators followed the hearing.

Youth 15 Cited For Intoxication At Norwalk High Game

A 15 year old Norwalk boy was cited into Juvenile Court on intoxication charges after auxiliary police at a Norwalk High School football game detected alcohol smell and observed the youth attempting to flee. He admitted to drinking beer with another boy found with quart bottles. The case includes alleged coercion of a younger boy and a wallet-pocket demand incident. The youth gave a police statement and will be referred to the Juvenile Court.

Tractor Fire Destroys Rig During Refuel

Howard Leber of Old State Road North attempted to refuel a farm tractor in his driveway when the engine ran and gasoline spilled. The tractor was extensively damaged but Leber was uninjured as Norwalk firemen arrived after a 9:58 a.m. call.

Mayor Harold Finch says he checked the Seminary Bank Streets lot in his car and found it very quiet with four cars unoccupied. He discussed observations with Police Chief L C Hilson and plans periodic checks, amid complaints raised by John M Haupricht about beer parties and drag racing near Connie’s Laundry across from the lot.

With 16 percent of the total goal pledged, the Norwalk Area United Fund reports progress. Donald Blosser says drive totals rise to 11,477.58 after Friday contributions. division tallies list professional 2424, commercial 1220, industrial 4113.08, residential 309.50 as the drive eyes a 70,848 goal.
