The E Biglow Co will shut its production facilities for an unspecified period to reduce inventories. About 50 employees will be affected while the sales office loading and shipping functions continue.
The Soviet paper Trud reports scientists have mastered building nuclear powered rockets for interplanetary travel. It states there are no conceptual difficulties and only time is needed for design construction and testing.
Rep. Robert Taft Jr. of Ohio announced on Today that he backs Barry Goldwater for the presidency and expects Goldwater to carry Ohio in November. Taft spoke during a debate with Democratic challenger Sen Stephen Young.
Former President Harry S. Truman is reported resting well in a Kansas City hospital after a fall at his Independence home left him with two fractured ribs and facial cuts. Physicians monitor his condition as they treat the injuries and observe for any complications.
Nguyen Van Troi, 24, executed by firing squad in Saigon for attempting to kill U.S. Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara. He shouted pro communist slogans as bullets ended his life. Hurricane Isbell battered Florida with 100 mph winds injuring people and damaging property from Cape Kennedy to Miami.

No progress was made at a Toledo meeting between Northern Ohio Telephone Company officials and Local 986 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Commissioner Harry Gray of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service led the session. No further meetings are planned. A NOT statement issued this morning explained the stalemate.

Window painting judging occurs October 24 with five categories and prizes. Registration for the window contest is October 17 at the Recreation Center. Don Wurzil leads the organizing committee.
Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower spoke in Columbus Ohio as part of five GOP campaign stops. He urged a Republican administration to restore orderly governance and vision, and derided Democratic charges of nuclear misuses and disunity among allies. He noted Ohio’s past GOP votes and singled out Barry Goldwater by name.
Resource Group Organizer Richard Flint of Willard was named president of the Huron County Resource Development Committee. Tom Sean Norwalk Larry Burt New London Harley Polley Bellevue and Willard Fritz Attica were named vice presidents. Lyle Dawson Willard named secretary. The RDC will coordinate existing study committees and form new ones to explore county problem areas and develop a countywide plan.
