Yankees Tie World Series Behind Pepitone Rally

The New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 to even the World Series at one win apiece. A disputed hit-by-pitch call in the sixth inning by umpire Bill McKinley helped spark a rally that sent Mickey Mantle home on Tom Tresh’s single, with Mel Stottlemyre pitching seven strong innings. The Yankees added four runs in the ninth, aided by Phil Linz and shortstop Phil Rizzuto’s late hits, while Mantle and Pepitone helped fuel the offense with key hits and runs.
