Preparing shrubs for winter with mulch and deep watering
Extension agent John K Wells advises gardeners to water deeply before winter, apply organic or complete fertilizer to root zones, and use leaf mulch 2 to 4 inches thick. For large trees drill root-zone holes, fill with fertilizer, and water well. Leaf mulch protects roots and preserves moisture, but remove in spring.

Three Area Elevators Granted Cereal Permits
The Farm Bureau Elevator, Firelands Elevator and Monroeville Cooperative Elevator gain limited permits to move cereal grains from regulated areas. Additional facilities included Greenwich Mill and Elevator, the Willard Farmers Exchange, and Havana Omar Grain and Supply. Regulated zones in Huron County cover Fairfield and Greenfield townships. Wheat and oats exit regulation 90 days post harvest, new corn similarly for 90 days. Permits require leak proof transport and tarpaulins, with cereal leaf beetle certificates for most seed shipments from regulated to unregulated areas. Seed shipments exempt from certificate from Dec 1 to Jun 1 if conditions met.
