Tim Sommer, 23, of Norwalk, fired a no hit no run game for San Mateo against the Phils in Peninsula League play. He faced 29 batters, struck out 11, and allowed three reach base as Norwalk won. Sommer led the California league last summer in complete games with 16 and was among leaders in strikeouts and ERA.
Democratic candidate Frazier Reams Jr. asserted in Norwalk that Governor Rhodes’ education aid record is fraudulent. He addressed Rotarians and area superintendents, criticizing declining state support and higher local taxes, urging greater investment in schools and higher education.
Norwalk Area United Fund tops 7600 after one week of solicitation led by chairman John Wise. The campaign aims for 55783 this year and shows 5600 raised since last Thursday.
Police arrested Thomas Edward Carter 26 of Clyde on a Toledo first degree murder warrant. Neighbors reported a body in a car Carter drove, raising the possibility it was missing 88 year old Eugene Carruthers. Carter, free on bond on an assault with deadly weapon indictment, was taken into custody in Fremont by local police and state troopers.
