Willard City Manager Armstrong Resigns to Lead Xenia Ohio

Willard City Manager R Keith Armstrong resigns to become city manager of Xenia Ohio effective November 4. He submitted his resignation to council and plans to leave November 3 after serving since January 1964. Armstrong recalls career upgrades and lists Willard improvements including water and street programs and hospital establishment.

Road Work Interrupts Norwalk Traffic on Main Street

City Mayor Harold Finch announced Thursday and Friday road work will close Main Street cross streets at times to finish the final asphalt coat. Traffic along Route 250 will detour via Seminary Street and Milan Avenue while the courthouse square is treated. the north side from the Norfolk and Western underpass to Route 1861 junction Thursday and the south side Friday.

Willard Appoints Rights Committee For Open Housing Ordinance

Willard City Council named five members to the first Human Relations Commission to enforce the new open housing and anti discrimination ordinance effective Sunday. The group includes Gary E. Oversmith and four local clergy and professionals. Also approved were four emergency ordinances funding street and sewer projects with Mansfield Paving and Flooring Co. for East Howard Street and Spangler Street improvements.

News Policy Adopted By Tax Study Committee

The Citizens Income Tax Study Committee will issue one news release each Thursday morning after adopting a policy Tuesday night. Chairman Anthony Petrosino announced the plan as the panel meets Monday and Tuesday nights. He and secretary James McGuire will prepare releases on Wednesdays for media by Thursday. The committee voted 6-2 to hold closed meetings with Fire Chief Kenneth Link and Police Chief L.C. Hilson present Tuesday. Petrosino said the next department heads to be interviewed will be named in the Thursday release.

Fortas withdraws bid for chief justice post

Abe Fortas asked President Johnson to withdraw his nomination to be chief justice after the Senate blocked an effort to end the filibuster. Fortas noted the Senate's failure to halt the filibuster and said he would address the matters in the 1968 term beginning October 7.

Sextuplets Born in England on 30th Birthday

Birmingham wife Sheila Thorns delivered six babies by Caesarean at New Birmingham Maternity Hospital two months early. Four girls and two boys weighed two to four pounds. one girl died soon after. Fertility drug gonodrophin linked to the birth. Babies under care of Dr. Ben Wood with delivery led by Miss Margaret Shotton.

Frederick Stein of Columbus purchased Norwalk Press Store Inc., a longtime East Main Street retailer, from Edward S. Rubinow and Mrs. L M Preis. Stein plans to keep the Press name and may expand to other stores while Rubinow assists as consultant.
