At a news conference President Tito, age 76, said Yugoslavia would defend itself without outside help and would not seek aid from anyone. He emphasized readiness to resist aggression from any side.
Statewide collections for the two week period ending November 23 rose over 24 percent from a year earlier, totaling about 31.5 million. Fiscal year to date receipts near 255 million, up about 38 percent from last year, with eight counties showing declines.

Norwalk prepares for a second reading of an income tax ordinance on Tuesday. Mayor Harold Finch notes a Citizens Committee report due Monday night and hints the panel may back the tax, with final action possible at the Dec 17 meeting and emergency passage to take effect Jan 1.

A large Norwalk crowd welcomed Santa as he rode into town Friday night in a pony cart. Majorettes in elf hats and the high school band led the parade while junior high players performed. Santa will greet children 7 to 9 p.m. through Dec. 23 at his house on W. Main and S. Hester. Stores stay open late through weeknights and Saturday.
