Former Kansas Governor Alf Landon urged President Ford to stay active in politics and head the GOP for the next four years. He recalled Hoover's 1938 bid and Roosevelt's cabinet offer, urging Ford to maintain Democratic two party processes and press on with rebuilding the party through the next election.
LOS ANGELES reports the administration plans to abolish gasoline price controls on President Ford's final day in office. Frank Zarb of the Federal Energy Administration said the proposal could be presented when Congress reconvenes January 4, with the repeal looming unless disapproved by January 19, just before Carter's inauguration.
A man armed with a small caliber handgun robbed about 75 dollars from Willard Lawson's store around 7 p.m. Monday. The clerk, the sole employee, described the suspect as about six one and 150 pounds wearing a blue coat black pants and blue and white tennis shoes. Police said there is no confirmed vehicle at this time.
Salvation Army workers discovering a newborn boy wrapped in a paper bag in Southgate loaded into a truck then driven to Wyandotte General Hospital in fair condition.
