Private funeral services were held today for Joseph P. Kennedy in Hyannis Port Mass. A Mass of Joy on a chrysanthemum altar honored a fallen son while Sen Edward M Kennedy delivered the eulogy. Rose Kennedy requested the special Mass with white vestments.
Space Center Houston reports Pete Conrad says color film from the second moonwalk was left in a saddle bag outside the lunar lander. Mission control confirms Surveyor photos are black and white.
John Brown testified about the April 24 death of Bill Famulare at Famulare’s apartment after a confrontation over Brown’s alleged charges about his wife’s relationships. He described wrestling over a gun and a fatal shot, with testimony detailing earlier reconciliation talks and related letters.

SPACE CENTER Houston UP I reports that astronauts lacked a screwdriver to repair a $78000 color television camera on the moon mission. Westinghouse officials say radio guidance and proper tools could have fixed the camera, but high intensity sunlight damaged the tube, leaving the image unusable after the sunlit period.
UPI reports total deaths in the Vietnam War rose to 701 511 as fighting along the Cambodian border and near the DMZ intensified. Last week 113 Americans, 497 South Vietnamese and 3 013 Viet Cong or North Vietnamese died, with 643 Americans and 1 310 South Vietnamese wounded.
Washington UPI Henry Cabot Lodge resigns as chief U S negotiator at the Paris peace talks. Deputy Lawrence E Walsh also resigns. No successors named. Philip C Habib named acting head and Donald L Ziegler says replacements unknown.
Cleveland photographer Ronald L. Haeberle recounts startling details of the My Lai No 4 village killings on March 16 1968. He says U S troops fired on civilians including women and children as ground combat entered the hamlet. The case prompts a new Army investigation with 1st Lt William L Calley Jr charged with murder and Staff Sgt David Mitchell charged with assault with intent to murder.
