Unintentioned Bank Robber Gets Compassion

In Los Angeles the case of Peter Mace a 60 year old butcher who robbed a Sherman Oaks bank was heard. He pleaded guilty and faced 20 years but the judge sentenced him to three years probation after a psychiatric exam was ordered. Mace cited drinking and his wife’s death as factors.

Norwalk Council Approves Power Study and Substation Plans

The Norwalk City Council adopted an emergency ordinance to hire the Akron firm Glaus Pyle Schomer to survey the power plant and draft improvement recommendations. A $6,500 appropriation from the electric fund funds the study, with bids planned for two north city substations and a power loop costing over $300,000.

St Peter Lutheran Church to Hold Special Meeting on Property Expansion

A special congregational meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday November 22 in the church basement will decide on buying property for church facility expansion at the current site or constructing new facilities at another site. Attendance is expected to be the largest ever and babysitting and movies will be provided for children. Separately in Rome Italy expelled two Egyptian diplomats over a Moroccan kidnapping case, and protested to the United Arab Republic.

Norwalk Board Recognizes Teachers Group

The Norwalk Teachers' Association was recognized by the Board of Education as the official representative of Norwalk teachers. The group formed Oct 14 and replaces the former Norwalk City Teachers Association. Dr. Sturgis R. Corbin supports the association and outlines aims to negotiate salaries and policy involvement.

Norwalk Board weighs free school rentals and new shop programs

The Norwalk Board of Education heard Dale Olsen outline a tentative rental policy to waive charges for school or school-related groups including children in recreation. St Pauls High will use the Junior High gym free for practice with a $25 custodial fee for games. Dr Sturgis Corbin announced state reimbursable two year carpentry and auto mechanics programs for juniors and seniors, needing two more teachers and shop courses plus math and science. He also plans to explore home economics program expansion.
