The Vatican says Pope Paul VI will donate the jeweled crown of his pontificate to combat global poverty. The golden tiara, crowned in 1963 in Milan, weighs about three pounds, stands 15 inches tall, and is valued around 12 000 dollars. It features a cross of diamonds atop a lapis globe.
Vatican sources say the crown may be sold to aid the poor or its cash value donated during the Pope's rush to Bombay for the Eucharistic Congress. Archbishop Felici announced the move at a Byzantine rite Mass as East West Catholic unity was stressed. The crown was placed on St. Peter's main altar after Mass. Council plans an extra Saturday session as seven working days remain before adjournment.
Donald Loney of Lorain was burned on his hand and feet when a 7,200 volt line was struck by a boom while operating an Ohio Edison machine near Berlinville. He was taken to Lorain Community Hospital in good condition.

Fire crews extinguished scrap fiber fire in ductwork at St Marys Street plant after a shredding spark ignited material. Smoke was reported but damage remained minor as Fire Chief Kenneth Link credited the sprinkler system for containment and firefighters remained on scene about an hour.
Norwalk will convert Cline Street to a southbound one way for about 300 feet and divert northbound traffic onto Milan to improve safety at Milan Avenue. Work uses leftover asphalt with an estimated cost around 1500 dollars and is set to be completed next week.
