Supreme Court overturns Georgia death sentence in Green case

The Supreme Court, in an 8 to 1 ruling, overturned Roosevelt Green's death sentence. The decision held the judge erred by not admitting hearsay testimony during the sentencing phase. Green and Moore were linked to the murder of 18 year old Teresa Carol Allen in December 1976.

Fewer Traffic Deaths Amid Holiday Weekend Trend

The National Safety Council reports a lower than expected Memorial Day weekend in highway deaths with 542 fatalities and about 25 000 disabling injuries last year. The conservative driving trend is cited as a contributing factor to the improvement.

Hidden twins kept in squalid room shock Scotlandville

Deputies found 7-year-old twins Gaynell and Lionel Jolla malnourished and untreated in a back room of a one-story home in Scotlandville. Parents Leon and Anna Jolla were charged with two counts each of cruelty to a juvenile. The children were hospitalized for cleanup and observation. Neighbors were stunned as officials described two years of isolation from the rest of the family.
