Jackie Mabley known as Moms Mabley died at 75 after a long career in television. Her act featured a raunchy old lady routine and she appeared on Broadway and radio.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said Turkish leaders were profoundly offended by the U.S. ban on arms shipments. A senior U.S. official aboard Kissinger's plane warned that continuing the ban could prompt a Turkish military assault against Greece, linking the embargo to Turkish shortages and anger over Greek fortifications in the Aegean Islands.
Ambassador L Dean Brown who led Ford administration refugee task force resigns after six weeks. Julia Vadala Taft named to succeed him as staff member. Brown says he left due to urgent need to return to the Middle East Institute in Washington.
Norwalk hosts its inaugural Memorial Poppy Festival along Main Street with rides and booths opening amid May weather. About 200 teens attended a Friday night dance, activities run through Memorial Day, with a 7:30 p.m. fiddler concert at Norwalk High School Auditorium and a pizza eating contest at Joseppi's Restaurant attracting entrants.
Three people were killed and 11 wounded in Dayton Ohio when 28 year old Russell Lee Smith shot his girlfriend Jean Marie Gattwood 16 and then roamed the city firing at will before killing himself Police said a 25 year old woman Paulette Couch of Miamisburg was among the dead and a six year old child was among injured as the gunman moved across streets highways and a theater including a kidnapping rape near a school and a wooded area.
Winning numbers announced for this week include single 114 and doubles 205 208. Lucky Buck results show three digit 541 and six digit 783645.

UPI reports 80 women and children evacuated from Vientiane to Bangkok as the United States begins burning nonessential embassy documents amid anti American demonstrations and growing Communist control. Earlier, 159 more dependents left Friday, with negotiations required to allow departures.
Herman T. Dahle 67 from Madison Wisconsin biked 325 miles to St Olaf College Northfield Minnesota for Alumni Day. He rode a girl's bicycle due to a bum hip and survived two heart attacks and a stroke. The trip lasted five days averaging 70 miles daily and he lost nine pounds. Dahle is a 1930 class member who has logged over 25 000 miles on bicycles.
