Drunk Airman Steals C130 at Mildenhall Base

A United States Air Force mechanic, Sgt. Paul A. Meyer, 23, stole a C130 Hercules from Mildenhall Base England while drunk. The 97-foot plane vanished with nine hours of fuel and searchers found no trace, and officials suspected it went down possibly in the Atlantic.

Guard and Snipers Clash at North Carolina A and T University

National Guardsmen moved on a dormitory after sniper fire wounded at least seven. Guardsmen and police exchanged fire. at least one guardsman was injured. A helicopter and light aircraft sprayed tear gas on the building as the action occurred. In Berkeley demonstrations, police and guardsmen fenced demonstrators with bayonets and arrested 496, with over 800 arrested in a week near UC Berkeley.

The Rev. George C. Hafner a 42-year-old Temple University religion graduate student will marry Mary C. Stanley of Dayton Ohio on Saturday at the Chapel of the Four Chaplains on Temple campus. A married priest will perform the ceremony.

A four year old boy found a loaded Derringer in his mother's bedroom and shot his right hand. James Kumpf 4 was taken to Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital then moved to a Cleveland hospital. Police say the mother was upstairs and the father lives in Vermilion and juvenile authorities will receive a report.

New Boiler On Line At Norwalk Plant Brightens City Power

Norwalk Municipal Electric Plant now carries full city load with a new boiler and turbine unit. The line was activated at 2 25 p.m Thursday and plant superintendent Don Davis reported satisfactory operation. Maintenance on older units has been deferred to meet demand, with work to restore them in emergencies. Improvements total nearly 3 million dollars.

Melons Lifted From Truck Reported In Norwalk

Clarence Ward of 142 Harkness Street reported watermelons stolen from his semi truck parked at Price Blacktop on Jefferson Street. The theft occurred after 2 p.m. Thursday and was discovered this morning as Ward headed from Florida to Cleveland with the load. There were an undetermined number of melons taken.

Two Chicagoans Hurt in Route 20 Truck Crash

Lem F. Brown 25 and Marvell Woods 38, both of Chicago, were injured in a 5:20 am crash on Route 20 east of Townsend. Brown, driver of a semi, ran off the road 102 feet, struck a pole and culvert, then rested in a ditch. Both were taken to Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital. Brown admitted, Woods treated and released. No citations reported by the Norwalk Post.

Two Girls Missing From School Find Way Home

Debbie Conrad seven and Tammy Evans eight of Monroeville stayed out after school. Parents alerted police at five. After three hours of searching, the girls returned home at eight behind a local drive-in restaurant.
