The Ohio House of Representatives passed a bill defining obscene material by predominant prurient appeal to nudity or sex and lacking redeeming social value. It draws a line between obscene content and materials harmful to minors with an 80 to 0 vote.
Fred M. Esherick aged 17, the youngest condemned in Ohio, was resentenced in Painesville to life in the Ohio Penitentiary for killing his father in May 1967. The 11th District Court of Appeals lowered his conviction to second degree murder making him parole eligible after 10 years.
In Greensboro North Carolina two police guards battled snipers holed in three university buildings. A victim died from small arms fire while being transported from the campus. No further details were released.
The Ohio Supreme Court granted Kroger an appeal in a case where the state liquor department labeled promotional games as illegal lotteries. The ruling centers on whether gambling contests occurred on premises selling beer and wine, affecting Kroger and other firms tagged by the department.
Senator William B. Saxbe announced Lester Stone of Delaware Ohio will lead the Ohio Farmers Home Administration. Stone, 62, will replace James T. McDorman of Columbus in the $15 500 a year position.

Sirhan shows no reaction as the judge notes the jury's verdict and the high-profile case follows to appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court.
An unidentified man and woman were injured this morning in a car truck crash at the east intersection of Route 18 and the Route 20 bypass. The truck overturned and slid 150 feet. both drivers were taken to Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital with injuries not yet known.
The State Housing Board voted 6-1 to join Norwalk to the Huron Metropolitan Housing Authority. Rural areas were excluded, despite opposition and shouting matches during the hearing.
In Paris the United States urged end to 18 weeks of deadlock in Vietnam peace talks and said it is ready to discuss South Vietnam's political future with North Vietnam present. Henry Cabot Lodge told Xuan Thuy and Tran Buu Kiem that serious detailed negotiations can begin immediately as proposals show common ground. Thieu is due to meet Nixon on Midway Island June 8.
President Nixon’s nomination of Warren E. Burger as chief justice drew praise from both parties in Congress. Senate confirmation looked likely as Judiciary Committee chair James Eastland prepared to move the nomination in the first week of June.
