State Education Bill Returns To Subcommittee In Ohio
The substitute education bill was sent back to subcommittee after Ohio Education Association urged a statewide county income tax to fund schools. The measure trimmed taxes and councils, set pupil-teacher ratios, cut nonpublic aid, and removed an excise tax on vendors. Rep. Mark Schinnerer said the bill will stay in subcommittee until funding for education programs is clarified. The finance committee studies supplemental education appropriations while tax measures move through Ways and Means. He noted elimination of county councils from the bill.
