Reading specialist Alice Stacey to retire after 33 years

Townsend native Alice Stacey will retire after 33 years in education, 32 of them in the Western Reserve School system. An open house honoring her will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Townsend Town Hall. She credits a bright student’s reading struggle with sparking her passion for reading, leading to a full-time reading lab funded by federal programs and modern audio-visual tools. She believes reading success underpins all learning and plans to pursue activities she lacked time for during her teaching career.
