Right-wing leader Menahem Begin, newly poised to become Israel's prime minister, was hospitalized in Tel Aviv after an apparent relapse from a heart attack suffered two months earlier. At 63, he showed exhaustion following a demanding schedule of public appearances after his election victory.
Houston Oiler quarterback Dan Pastorini was uninjured when his boat lost power and crashed into about 4000 spectators at Lake Liberty speedboat races. A 13-year-old girl died and four other people were hurt in Liberty Texas. Sheriff C L Eckols said motor trouble caused the collision and Pastorini could not be reached for comment.
Gunmen believed to be Moluccan separatists seized a northeast Holland train and took 130 children and teachers hostage in a nearby town. Officials said the raid is likely connected to the same group. The incident occurred two days before the Dutch national election.
President Carter ousted Maj. Gen. John Singlaub from his post in South Korea after Singlaub questioned withdrawal plans. Defense Secretary Brown said Singlaub would be reassigned due to statements inconsistent with national security policy. Meanwhile, Concorde protests near Kennedy Airport drew drivers and a Coast Guard flotilla into Jamaica Bay.
UPI reports heavy summer gasoline demand driven by growth and travel, with oil economists noting the main supply risk is unleaded shortages. They predict shortages unlikely except where localized supply networks face peak demand strain.
Flames swept through the Duc de Brabant hotel in central Brussels killing 12 people and injuring 40. Eleven victims were from two British tour groups staying there. Rescue teams again searched the seven story ruin as fears of collapse grew.

Florence Moffett a Federal Reserve Bank employee in Detroit said a would be rapist entered her east side apartment Saturday. After a struggle he demanded money but she recited Bible passages and warned of the wages of sin. He left after about 10 minutes with the $2 still on her.
Norwalk resident James Eldridge started a petition drive May 17 to place a quarter per cent income tax increase on the ballot. The tax was approved the same day by the City Council and would take effect July 1 unless enough signatures stop it, with a November vote possible if the petition succeeds.
The Supreme Court refused to hear John Ehrlichman H R Haldeman and John Mitchell in the 1975 Watergate coverup case. The ruling followed reports of secret deliberations and noted Justice William Rehnquist did not participate.
Everett Knowles of Reading Massachusetts recounts the 1962 reattachment at Massachusetts General Hospital of his severed right arm, the first successful limb reimplantation. Now 27, he plays tennis, drives a 1000 mile week, lifts beef, and says his right arm has improved but remains limited yet capable.
President Carter signed a major tax cut bill in a White House ceremony. The measure lowers withholding, simplifies forms for about 50 million standard-deduction filers, and injects 19.5 billion dollars in new cuts while extending 14.2 billion in current cuts over the next two fiscal years. It alters standard deductions to 2200 for singles and 3200 for married couples, netting roughly 3 dollars less or more weekly for many filers and adds a new jobs credit for businesses hiring above baseline levels.
About 1200 visitors attended the Norwalk Business Exhibition at the fairgrounds over the weekend. Howard Sawyer says turnout was best on Sunday and that many exhibitors and car dealers showed interest. Door prize went to Mrs. Leon Riley who won an automatic coffee maker and coffee supplies.
The first of the city’s planning strategies for Norwalk’s 1978 budget is set for tonight at City Hall at 7 30. City officials expect discussion on fiscal priorities and project funding for the coming year.
