The Norwalk Charter Commission unanimously approved an amended city charter Monday night. The key change makes the mayor the presiding City Council officer with a vote in ties. A second draft will be ready in June for printing before November’s general election.
Mrs. Glenn Jennings of 110 Clifton Street was featured in a This Is Your Life program after a Mother's and Daughters Banquet at Fitchville Methodist Church in New London. Family, friends, and schoolmates shared memories from her life, with guests from Greenwich and Oberlin and 14 grandchildren cited.
Sharon Erickson received the Arion Award as outstanding senior musician and Elaine Gardner earned the John Philip Sousa Award. Other winners listed include Marie Springer, Harolyn Hyatt, Judith McCullough, and John Williams. Elaine Gardner's parents are named Mr and Mrs David Gardner. Three town residents faced traffic violations including Robert D. Mann and Beverly J. Rogers with speeding and Howard C. Mickley Jr. with a traffic light violation. A mobile home park plan on St Marys Street was to be reconsidered by Norwalk Planning and Zoning. Larceny by trick charges against Carl Booth Mansfield were dismissed in Erie County Court.
Monroeville officials named Richard Wingate as chair, with Mrs. Robert Ackerman as assistant and secretary and Myron J. Gerber as treasurer. Centennial events set for August 24 and 25 with urged roles for Clifford Wilson Olen Schneider James and Russell Herner Mayor Kenneth Salisbury Leo J Heitz Mrs Florian Hipp Robert Ackerman and city departments and Kiwanis Club coordinating parade traffic and safety along with historical program and decorations.
A 44 year old transient, John R. McCrory of Canonsburg Pennsylvania, was jailed after triggering a church coin box alarm at St. Pauls Catholic Church 91 East Main Street Norwalk. He admitted setting off the alarm but denied attempting to take money. He faces charges in Norwalk Mayor s Court.
