A 45-year-old Catholic priest in Paris woke in satisfactory condition after a six hour operation at Broussais Hospital becoming the 14th person known to receive a heart transplant. The donor was a 39 year old man.

Nashville sergeant defuses time bomb at rock show
Police Sergeant R. Oscar Stone rushed into the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville with officers after an anonymous call reported a bomb. Patrolman Charlie Hayes found the device in a men's room and Stone removed it outside minutes before it could detonate as 3,500 teenagers watched a rock concert with Stone's daughter present.
