Monroeville water plant operations under fire at council meeting

Village officials heard a citizen accuse the water filtration plant of poor operation and improper use of funds and equipment by the plant superintendent. James J. Johnson urged the Board of Public Affairs to negotiate changes and called for safeguards against over supply and unmetered deliveries to rural haulers. He also criticized equipment upkeep and questioned water testing by Roscoe Catzel for private pools.

Sandy Sees Real School First Time

Sandy Brunn, a 13 year old polio survivor from Norwalk, visits Norwalk Junior High School marking her first real classroom experience away from hospital tutoring. She toured rooms, spent time in the library, and spoke of the day as a expected milestone.

Health Board Moves To Revoke Best Mobile Homes Park License

The Huron County Board of Health voted to seek revocation of the Best Mobile Homes Park license on Route 61 after repeated failures to correct deficiencies found in inspections. Sanitarian Clarence Ellett cited a nonoperational chlorinator, sewage near a trailer, rubbish, exposed 220 volt electrical boxes, and other hazards including oversize trailers, no fire extinguisher, no posted park rules, and standing water. Prosecutor Bernard Freeman was asked to pursue the action. owner Raymond J. Best was not present.

China reports internal struggle among intellectuals and party rivals

TOKYO via UPI China disclosed a serious struggle over domestic and foreign policy among intellectuals and within the Communist party with hints of possible purges. An editorial in Liberation Army Daily described a new group of scholars opposing the party and socialism and aligned with anti-China forces abroad. The piece noted the group coordinating with right opportunists and launching offensives against current policies.

Hollywoods in love with Lynda says Eddie Fisher

North Fairfield House Declared Nuisance by Health Board

The Huron County Board of Health declared an unoccupied North Fairfield residence a nuisance and ordered owner Joe E. Oney to repair it or face demolition. Over three years of complaints cite dangerous conditions including a leaking well, an outside privy, waste-filled pits, a decaying garage, and unsecured windows and doors on East First Street.
