Dick Gregory, a candidate for Chicago mayor, warned that if Chicago riots escalate this summer, they could surpass Watts in intensity. He described the Watts violence as a national shouting match that ended with a brick strike.
The League of Ohio Sportsmen adopted a resolution opposing the Dodd bill in the U S Senate that would restrict firearm ownership. The action came at the finale of their three day annual convention in Columbus.
Five Michigan residents were killed when a truck and car collided on the Ohio Turnpike near Cleveland Saturday. It marked a repeat of last week’s Akron fire deaths, underscoring a deadly weekend on Ohio roads. In Columbus, Herschel Atkinson Sr., 63, longtime executive vice president of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, died of a heart attack at his Upper Arlington home. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday.

A man held in Cumberland Maryland faces extradition to Huron County on a larceny by trick charge. Renoire Paul Comauxe using alias Gordon Hay es claims fraud on Rev. Clayton Wilson pastor of Willard Nazarene Church stealing 82 dollars. Comauxe was arrested March 3 after leaving Miners’ Hospital Frostburg. Authorities say extradition may take 30 days with grand jury May.
Western Reserve High School Roughriders edge Buckeye Central 63 to 61 on a last second shot by center Al Schlmeyer. Cheerleader Cheryl Hicks recalls the tense finish and plans a pep rally before Friday’s game with Sandusky St Mary’s at Heidelburg College gym in Tiffin. Ta Vinh a 35 year old Saigon Chinese merchant and head of Sui Hing Import Export Co was convicted of price speculation hoarding and bribery by a special court of three military officers. The court created after Prime Minister Ky vowed to crack down on hoarders and profiteers. Ky presided and promised swift action on corruption to President Johnson.
Huron County Automobile Club reports steady sales of 1966 red and white license plates on the first weekend. Miss Katherine Dombart notes XL XM XN XP XK XJ XX series order and that 15 extra days ease passenger car rush while trucks may wait until near deadline. Deadline is midnight April 15.
The Supreme Court affirmed the 1965 Voting Rights Act provisions suspending literacy tests in six Southern states. Chief Justice Earl Warren spoke for the court, saying millions of non white Americans may participate on an equal basis in their government.
