Record Fox Bounties In Huron County

Huron County fox bounty payments reached a new high in February with 119 foxes paid at $2 each by the Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff John Borgia notes it may be the highest in years while 105 red foxes and 14 gray foxes are listed. County commissioners set a $1,000 annual bounty fund and may provide more if needed. Hunters must provide all four feet and sign an affidavit naming the killing township.

Roof Fire Strikes Grabler Manufacturing Near Tiffin

Fire crews from the Tiffin area battled an early morning blaze at the unfinished Grabler Manufacturing Co. site, about a half mile east of town, for over an hour. A spark, dormant overnight, reignited in the morning wind and destroyed about 150 feet of roofing.

The forecast calls for spring fever Thursday with a low near 45 and a high around 58. It notes last year’s high was 48 and mentions past records of 64 on March 3, 1955 and 65 in 1951.

Pledges surpass million for campus branch of Bowling Green University

Officials announced final pledges reached 1,146,455.01 surpassing the 600,000 goal to unlock 1.8 million in state funds. Brown favored naming the project Everybody's University highlighting community support and lifelike education for tri county residents. Willard Auto Crash Injures Father and Daughter

A father and his daughter were admitted to Willard Hospital after a Thursday crash on Peru Center Road three miles east of Willard. Mrs Janet Potts 21 of Willard drove southbound and was hit as she turned into a private drive. Clarence Winemiller 42 of Wapakoneka was the passing driver cited for failure to signal.

Furnace Fire At Norwalk Home Causes Smoke

Norwalk firemen were called to the Edward Brutsche home at 15 St Marys Street at 4 10 this morning when a furnace motor caught fire. Firemen said damage was limited to the motor and the house was filled with smoke.

Man Defrauds Willard Minister Then Vanishes

Willard police traced a tall tale artist to Salisbury Pennsylvania where a man calling himself Renoire Paul Conauxe and his wife and son were found. The fraud victim Rev Clayton C Wilson pastor of the Willard Nazarene Church had co signed an $80 note for the man who fled two days after obtaining the money and claiming exploits such as being a world champion ski jumper.

Huron County Moves Toward Bragg Road Vacation

County commissioners set 10 a.m. for damage-claim hearings and filed a land appropriation suit to facilitate vacating 1,377 feet of Bragg Road. No claimants appeared at the hearing. The suit targets unknown parties named as John Doe and Mary Roe to bar future damage claims.

Witnesses Gather in Norwalk for Three Day Convention

About 1,200 Jehovahs Witnesses from Ohio Circuit 11 are expected to assemble at Norwalk Junior High School for a three day convention. Delegates and families from a 15 county area will attend, with visitors from Mt. Vernon Tiffin and Ashland. Harold P. Sandeen will give the welcome address Make Disciples of Peoples of All the Nations based on the convention theme. Two training programs will follow the talk.
