A fishing boat sighted a green flash off the Texas coast prompting U S air and naval units to search a distant point for the eight crewmen of a missing B52 bomber. The flare like light was reported about 9 p m EST Thursday as Coast Guard cutters Darvell and Point Hope were dispatched.
Senator Stephen M. Young charged President Johnson with pressuring North Vietnam to avoid exploiting any bombing pause while the United States keeps latitude to act. He said the administration seeks to constrain Hanoi during negotiations yet acts freely elsewhere.
Washington report describes President Johnson and Defense Secretary McNamara trapped in a Pentagon elevator for 12 minutes. Johnson uses the incident at a White House dinner to joke about Leap Year and computer errors affecting the World Bank budget.
Clark McAdams Clif ford, a Washington lawyer and longtime adviser to Democratic presidents, takes command of the U S military with his swearing in as secretary of defense by Chief Justice Earl Warren at 11 30 a m EST in a White House ceremony.
SAYBROOK Ohio UPI A 19-year-old mother and her two infant daughters died early today when fire struck their home about a mile north of Route 20 In Ashtabula County sheriff's deputies said Debbie Ann Brown saved her mother Iva Houghton from the blaze but perished when she reentered the house to fetch her daughters Michelle Lynn 13 months and Terry Lynn 3 1/2 months The tragedy occurred in Saybrook Township and authorities investigated the cause of the fire.

Light snow possible tonight, with morning humidity around 92 percent and 75 percent at 1 p.m. Death notices include Glenn L. Williams Sr. of Tiffin aged 77 and Holda Ohlemacher of Huron aged 67.
