The 65 member Whit tenberg Choir from Springfield Ohio arrived in Buenos Aires for a four day stay on its Latin America tour. The group came from Santiago Chile and will depart Friday for Montevideo Uruguay.
The Smothers Brothers with Pat Paulson will headline the Ohio State Fair with two daily shows on August 28 29 and 30 and other acts including Bob Hope Ed Ames Johnny Carson and John Davidson. Fair estimates exceed 1.5 million attendees.
French actress Denise Darcel posted bond to leave Miami jail on charges of stealing $38.04 worth of women’s underwear from a downtown department store. She was booked under the name Mrs. Denise Atkinson and gave a Miami Beach address.
In Fayet te Ohio three people including two children died during a family picnic at Harrison Lake. Aron Thurman 57 Patricia Terry 7 and Gary Lee Terry 4 were identified as victims. Thurman grandfather tried to save Patricia after she fell overboard as they were being rowed by Fulton County deputies.

A five year old Lorain boy received a head cut when a piece of metal flew off a car at Norwalk Dragway during a trial run. James Potts remained in fair condition at Elyria Memorial Hospital after transfer from Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital. Track Manager Walter Herzog Jr. called the injury not serious. Also reported: Huron County Ladies Sheriffs Posse horseshow drew 530 entries with nearly 200 horses and ponies at the fairgrounds. A Sandusky woman injured at Sandusky sesquicentennial celebration shows improving to fair condition at Elyria Memorial. Civil suits filed in Huron County Common Pleas on July 4, 1966 by Homer G Dalton against Steven R Whitt and Clyde R Whitt for 100000 and 10000 respectively, on behalf of his daughter Kathleen 11 and himself.
Xuan Thuy, North Vietnam’s chief delegate, said the United States must halt air raids unconditionally before any armistice. He blamed U.S. actions for stalled talks after more than a month of discussions and warned no progress without a U.S. halt.
Huron County Commissioners will consider a proposed five dollar hike in license fees at a special meeting planned for Friday morning. The proposal funds roads and drew no opposition at the second of two hearings held this morning, each with eight attendees. Attending were three township trustees, County Engineer Urban C. Livengood, and Sheriff John Borgin. Board members Arthur Herner and Donald Robertson scheduled the session with Chairman Arthur Leak returning from a conference in time to attend. Leak represents the county board at the Cincinnati meeting.
County officials discuss a proposed $5 license fee increase aimed at improving roads inside municipalities. Urban C. Livengood questions what counts as orderly traffic, while Arthur Herner argues Linwood Bridge may need funding to ease Benedict Avenue rail blockages. Robertson notes municipal payers would bear costs if the measure fails.
Police in riot gear evacuated Resurrection City as the Poor People’s Campaign encampment faced a 10 42 a m deadline to disperse. Despite an ultimatum, a handful remained to be arrested while hundreds of officers crowded the site conducting house to house checks.
Hundreds of prisoners armed with pipes and bottles rioted at the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus setting at least 10 major fires. Eight guards injured, one heart attack victim. Warden Ernie Maxwell said three guards were briefly held but escaped. 800 National Guardsmen and local police moved in as fires burned the print shop, workshops, hospital, auditorium, mills power plant, mess hall and shoe factory. Hospitals patients rescued. authorities declared semi control. Gov. James Rhodes and state corrections officials addressed the crisis as the riot continued.
A strange weather event left a pile of twisted trunks in a wooded area behind Wendell Ring Farm on Wells Road near Collins early Saturday morning. No injuries reported and no further details available.
Mrs Ring reported a tornado may have touched down behind the home during the Saturday wind storm. Five or six large trees were uprooted and large splinters were scattered in the area.
Uprooted trees found in tops of other trees up to 100 feet away. The King youngsters discovered the damaged trees Saturday afternoon while playing in the woods.
