Senators oppose 10 percent tax hike in dissenting vote

President Johnson, after an 18 month fight in Congress, plans to wait a few more days before signing the income tax measure. The White House said signature will come next week. Taxpayers will feel the effect 15 days later as payroll deductions reflect a 10 percent surcharge.

Sinking Of U S Ship Denied By U S South Korea

UPI reports denial from U S and South Korean military as well as BBC broadcast claims that North Korea sunk an Allied spy ship off its western coast. U N and U S command say no such incident occurred and no information substantiates the claim. Washington officials say no report exists and US State Department notes only rumors.

Fitchville Ohio saw the Mansion House torn down after decades of decline. Built in 1837 by Union and White it hosted farmers and a famed tavern life. Demolition comes as state road widening progresses. Residents recall dances and legends of Underground Railroad activity.

New London Stolen Newspapers Target Carrier Boy

A nine year old Reflector carrier on his first week on the job had 61 newspapers stolen from his bicycle late Friday afternoon in New London. The boy left the bike unattended at City Hall to get change from his mother the clerk treasurer. An employee later saw the papers behind a sporting goods store. Five or six papers were damaged and police continue investigation

Willard District Seeks One Millionth Mill Levy

Willard Local School district filed for a one mill additional operating levy at the Huron County Board of Elections. If approved it would fund current expenses indefinitely. A majority vote in the November election is required with Greenfield New Haven Norwich and Richmond Townships in Huron County and Auburn Township in Crawford County voting.
