Premier Ian Smith praises the white electorate for cutting ties with Britain and endorsing a Rhodesian constitution that preserves white majority rule. He calls for global recognition and notes independence declared on Nov. 11, 1965.
In Charleston a 400 person unauthorized march in sympathy with striking hospital workers led to violence as police carried Rev. Ralph Abernathy and Hosea Williams to a patrol wagon. Four youths attacked officers and were jailed along with SCLC leaders. Three policemen were injured and a UPI photographer was struck by a brick.

Marriage licenses filed for three couples in Norwalk, Collins, and Willard. Deaths reported for Hohl in Berlin Heights, Taylor in Willard, and infant Krumroy of Akron.
UPI reports officials warn President Nixon may have fueled undue optimism by suggesting all ground combat troops could be withdrawn from Vietnam by year end. They stress no firm promises were made and caution public belief may threaten Paris talks and Hanoi concessions.
Sen. William Proxmire accused the Federal Reserve Board of allowing large banks to undermine tight money policy as banks raised the prime rate to a record 8 12 percent for top corporate customers. He urged Fed action to curb lending and close loopholes used by banks via holding companies.
Four Buckeye Girls State participants earned posts or appointments in Columbus. Susan Theisen and Myra Patchen won House seats, Rebecca Stacy became deputy Hobart police chief, and Martha Eisenbarth was named a Girls State Senate lobbyist.
The Ohio Board of Regents rejected EHOVE district's plan to form a technical school district citing duplication with the Firelands Branch of Bowling Green State University. EHOVE's Creighton Christ criticized the decision and pledged to pursue further action with a meeting of the EHOVE Superintendent's Advisory Board. Participating boards included Huron City Norwalk City Erie County Huron County and Danbury Township.
A 60 year old Milan resident, Marian Colvin of Seminary Road, was found unconscious by her husband at 11 a m Friday after a beating at her home. She is in critical condition at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital. The assailant is unknown and no items appear missing. Police are investigating.
James Hile and Harold Woodward announce the first county wide Disaster Committee for the Huron County area under the Firelands Red Cross Chapter. Sub committee chairs include Rev Paul C Bailey Shelter Dr Albion V Gotaas Canteen Mrs Harry Notzinger Food Urban L Banker Nursing Mrs George Bruehler Mrs Grace Reid Medical Dr Phillip Bently Furnishing George Bruehler Clothing Richard F Betschman Case Work Charles Flory. Sub committees will expand and train under the local Red Cross Chapter.
