The 23rd annual Buckeye Girls State opens at Capital University Columbus with about 1275 high school juniors or younger girls from across Ohio. Sponsored by the Ohio American Legion Auxiliary the eight day government in action workshop certifies outstanding students by school leaders.
In Athens Ohio 1360 Buckeye Boys State citizens hear a weekend rally ahead of Sunday elections. Wayne Feinstein and Stan Silverstein compete for governor as Federalist and Nationalist candidates. Dorothy Louks of Dayton wins over 100000 in a government judgment after being dismissed from Wright Patterson AFB.

Aboard the UPI report from Subic Bay the joint US Australian board warned Lt. JG Ronald G. Ramsey of negligence after the June 3 collision of the destroyer Frank E. Evans with the Australian carrier Melbourne. Capt. John P. Stevenson blamed the Evans for the SEATO exercise crash that sliced the vessel in two, killing 74 sailors. Ramsey, represented by Lt. Tilton, could face military court action, prison, and dismissal if convicted.

David Rollins an 18 year old of 68 Wooster Street is listed in poor condition at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital after a motorcycle collision with a car on Schaffer Road late Wednesday. He suffers a head injury and multiple leg fractures including two breaks between knee and thigh and a break between ankle and knee. His father John Rollins reports the injuries and current treatment.
Dennis R. Bowling, 23, of Milan, was critically injured in a one car crash on State Route 113 near Milan at 1 25 a m. His car struck a large tree stump after leaving the road, and he was thrown from the vehicle. He was treated for a fractured skull and transferred from Norwalk to Elyria Memorial Hospital. The car, equipped with seat belts, was a total loss.
Police in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County say they have leads they cannot discuss and several suspects who look good in the six unsolved murders of young women tied to the University of Michigan. The latest victim, Alice Kalom, hailed from Kalamazoo and was buried today. Kalom’s father, Joseph Kalom, donated 1 000 to UM Art School in her memory, funds intended for a Europe trip she planned.
