Light plane bombs Nike site but misses target in California

An unidentified single engine plane with a red tail dropped a homemade firebomb about 250 feet over a U.S. Army Nike missile site in Van Nuys California. The bomb landed in a ditch outside the fence and a small fire burned out. Witness John MacWhirter described the cannister tumbling end over end with a trail of black smoke before exploding in a puff and ring of fire.

Clarence March, 69, retired after 47 years at Norwalk Furniture Corp, celebrated with 17 other long-time employees at a champagne party and dinner in Norwalk. The event honored the company’s golden anniversary and March’s decades of service. Young Marine Dan Bullock 15 Dies in Vietnam

UPI reports Pfc. Dan Bullock, aBrooklyn native and the youngest American casualty in Vietnam, died Saturday from multiple wounds after enlisting by misrepresenting his age. His true birth year was 1953 despite a December 21, 1949 claimed birth date.

South Korean forces clash with North Korean speedboat offshore

A one hour gunbattle off Korea's west coast ended with the annihilation of North Korean invaders as gunboat troops and planes captured a speedboat trying to rendezvous with spy Kim Yong Ku, 39, according to the Korean Central Intelligence Agency.

County approves 15 dollar monthly raise for all workers

Huron County commissioners set July 1 as the effective date for a 15 dollar per month raise for about 200 county employees, opting against paid hospitalization. Sheriff John Borgia calls the move wholly unacceptable while noting tax implications and potential city income tax effects.

Man Reaching For ID Card Shot To Death

In Los Angeles Donald Lee Oughton 29 was shot and killed by police after reaching for a back pocket wallet containing his ID card. Officers misread the situation as gunfire then fired, hitting Oughton in the face and back though no weapon was found. Neighbors described him as a nice, harmless man.

Grizzly Attacks Child Near Yellowstone Campground

An aging 400 pound grizzly near a Yellowstone campground grabbed five year old Daphne Jax in its jaws after being harassed by children. Daphne suffered cuts and a broken rib but survived after hospitalization in St Paul. The bear was shot and killed after the incident.
