Pneumonic plague death linked to rabbit in Tecolote yard

State health officials report a 19 year old man died of pneumonic plague the only form spread by person to person. A dog allegedly dragged a rabbit into the yard, prompting medical surveillance on about 70 contacts with no symptoms yet.

Zeiter Named To CAC In Erie Huron County

Charles R. Zeiter, a New London Junior High special education teacher living in North Fairfield, has been named to the Erie Huron County Community Action Commission by the Huron County Commissioners. He replaces John Yacob of Willard and previously served two terms on the CAC until 1975. Zeiter represents Commissioner Roy Palm, will serve with enthusiasm, and is a former North Fairfield mayor for 10 years until 1976 and a mayoral candidate this year. he and wife Nancy have two children, Andrew and Patricia.

Norwalk High School 1979 Graduation Comes Amid Rainy Commencement

The Norwalk High School class of 1979, 182 graduates, received diplomas Thursday at the junior high in a combined commencement and baccalaureate service amid a downpour. Valedictorian Marcia Albright urged peers to use time and knowledge to shape their futures, while Salutatorian Vicky Moyer emphasized pursuing open opportunities. The ceremony featured prayers, diplomas presented by school board President Fred Waugh, and moments of celebration including graduates in jeans under maroon robes and a cap blowing fan. 41 seniors earned scholarships or awards, with numerous institutions and honors listed for individual students.

Robert Bruckshaw crafts highly accurate scale ships in his Greenwich workshop. He spends about 1,000 to 3,200 hours on each vessel, researching plans from national museums and compiling exact wood, rigging, and cannon details. Huron County Health Board approves over $12,000 in pay hikes

The Huron County Board of Health approved more than $12,000 in pay increases for full time staff at its monthly meeting. Sanatorian Roger Dixon and county supervising nurse Imelda Lodermeier each gain $2,236 to reach $16,016 annually. A $25 per pay period cost of living raise will apply to 12 full time employees, with bi monthly pay, totaling $650 more this year. Merits raises may follow, contingent on evaluations. A summer hire at minimum wage was approved.
