North Fairfield seeks funds to help Nigerian student return home
A North Fairfield woman asks 900 Huron County residents to donate $1 each to raise $964 for Basil Etim, a Nigerian student in Athens Ohio who recently earned a master’s in English at Ohio University and cannot afford his trip home. Dr. Calvin Thayer oversees the ticket fund at OU.

Six Men Injured in Knife Fight at Norwalk Legion Hall
A late night dance at the Norwalk American Legion Hall ended with six injured after knives and broken glass erupted. Pedro Rodriguez 55 Pharr Texas suffered a back stab wound and remains in fair condition at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital. Assault charges were filed against Maximo Garcia 24 Willard. The sheriff’s department notes the fight began outside during a La Raza Unida sponsored event. The investigation continues with a broken Legion window as the only building damage.

Sheller-Globe Corp cannot switch its Superior Coach Division plant from Ohio Edison to the municipal system due to an eight year old ordinance granting Ohio Edison exclusive service. The plant, built when the ordinance passed, required Ohio Edison power. Norwalk municipal lines were considered only if the change occurred. Ohio Edison is updating to a 69 000 volt system this fall.
