Carillon replaces old bell at St Josephs Church Monroeville
St Josephs Roman Catholic Church in Monroeville installed an electronic carillon system costing 7046 dollars to replace a cracked one ton bell from 1976. It rings the Angelus at 7 am noon and 6 pm and plays two more selections daily. Replacing the bell would have cost about 21000 dollars. The Altar and Rosary Society funded the project starting in 1978 with donations and events. The system uses pre recorded tapes and a bell 10 pounds lighter, with future plans to broadcast notes to the community.
