Exxon Corp, the world’s largest oil company, announced first half 1979 profit of 1.785 billion dollars, up 435 million from a year earlier on sales of 38.406 billion. The gain came from foreign operations as domestic oil and gas profits fell below 1978 levels.

Two giant Liberian-registered tankers, Atlantic Empress and Aegean Captain, collide near Crown Point Tobago. Officials say up to 3.5 million barrels of oil may have spilled, with 29 missing and 51 survivors. Aegean Captain’s maneuver limited damage. A separate Saturday crash near Spring Hill farm injured a biker. Rain ended activities Sunday afternoon and left a large cleanup.
