Plane Crashes In Lake As Six Willard Men Swim To Shore
Pilot Arthur W. Heck and five passengers survived a Lake Erie crash after their Piper Cherokee lost power shortly after takeoff from Burke Airport. The six men, four from Willard and two from Celeryville, swam 100 to 150 feet to shore and were treated at Lutheran Medical Center. Heck planned to salvage the plane. the group had been in Cleveland for a sports banquet and expected to fly on to Buffalo.

West Baking opens Michigan plant unrelated to Norwalk strike
West Baking Co president Richard West said the Holland Michigan plant is not tied to the Norwalk strike. The former Dutch Bay Baking Co. site will serve McDonald’s in western and northwestern Michigan, employing about 20 workers.
