Taxpayers Gripe to Wrong Man Replies Auditor

In Huron County with under a week to go before the deadline, 35 complaints about real estate tax bills have been filed at the auditor’s office. Acting Auditor Kenneth Reed expects more, but fewer than 100 total, as taxpayers contend with the complex filing form and required notarization. The Board of Tax Review will hear complaints after the deadline, and burden on the taxpayer to prove unjustified assessments. Reed stresses state regulations govern the process while noting sympathy for the elderly and those on low incomes. He urges state legislature action to ease real estate taxes.
