The United States sought UN Security Council action after a second failed appeal to Russia to help free the USS Pueblo and its 83 crew. Secretary of State Rusk planned a closed briefing for the Senate committee amid renewed North Korea tensions.
The White House hosted its annual dinner for Vice President Humphrey, Speaker McCormack, and Chief Justice Warren amid a Pueblo crisis. President Johnson did not address the Pueblo fate, while Humphrey praised his responsibilities and recalled Truman’s line about being lonely as president.
North Korea's Rodong Shinmoon called the 83 crew of the captured Pueblo criminals. Allied officials reported four U S Navy task forces near North Korea and heavy American reinforcements in South Korea as Enterprise led the carrier group to a ready position off the port of Pueblo.

In New London Mrs. Harley Owen suffered severe burns as her White Avenue home burned, the second calamity in a week after the death of her husband. Neighbors report burned furnishings meant for Florida shipment. Meanwhile in Plymouth a baby, Teresa Milo, died of head trauma and burns. Geraldine Milo and Daniel Patrick are held on homicide suspicion after a disturbing scene and police describe the case as a severe abuse incident.
Maj. Ronald G. Strack son of Mr and Mrs Robert Strack 8 Breezewood Drive was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by Maj. Gen. Jack Thomas at the Pentagon for meritorious service as an F 105 pilot during a bombing raid near Hanoi on December 12 1966. His crew suppressed SAM sites ensuring the strike's success despite an F 105 loss and his actions aided in rescuing a downed pilot.
Mrs. Ruth Ann Kromer of 250 Milan Ave. was awarded 40000 in Huron County Common Pleas Court after suing Jeanne Frank of 66 E. Main St. for injuries from a February 26 1965 traffic accident at the driveway entrance to St. Pauls Episcopal Church.
