Ships from the United States Britain Israel and other allies swept the eastern Mediterranean today searching for the submarine Dakar with 69 crew. The hunt focused near areas where Soviet warships have massed since the end of the June Mideast war.
A Johnson administration mediation panel ordered public hearings next week on the 195 day copper strike that crippled the industry. The three members met six hours with Labor Department officials to chart a path to settlement. Hearings run Tuesday through Friday. the strike began July 15 and involves 60,000 workers in 26 unions at 22 states.
Detroit UPI negotiators resume discussions to avert a GM demanded shutdown that could lay off about 300,000 workers if three foundry strikes remain unsettled. GM says 117,900 of its 421,000 UAW members have already been laid off due to parts shortages from Tonawanda New York Saginaw Michigan and Defiance Ohio plants, all struck.
One thousand Ohio National Guard reservists called into active service for the Korean crisis assembled at Lockbourne Air Force Base ready for any duty.

Births include a boy to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Grose of 114 Seminary. Deaths are Elbert B. White, 64, Huron and Frank Albert Weisenberger, 78, Rural Norwalk.
The Ohio General Assembly sent its congressional redistricting plan to a Cleveland federal district court for approval under the one-man, one-vote rule. If the court accepts it, the plan may still face Supreme Court appeal. if not, the court will draw its own. The bill was signed by Gov. Rhodes after quick legislative action amid cross-party voting.
North Korea dismisses UN Security Council talks over its seizure of the USS Pueblo. A government statement broadcast abroad says it will ignore any council action favorable to the United States.
The communist regime declares it opposes any discussion of the "illegal complaint" by the United States over the Pueblo hijacking. North Korea states it will not recognize any resolution designed to cover up alleged U S imperialist aggression.
Security Council discussion grows on sending Secretary General Thant or another neutral diplomat to negotiate the release of the USS Pueblo and its 83 crew held by North Korea. Diplomats debate an umbrella approach, with Canadian George Ignatieff and others pushing for neutral mediation amid U S pressure and Soviet opposition.
The United States seeks a bloodless resolution to North Korea’s seizure of the USS Pueblo and its crew while preparing for any contingency. President Johnson cites security council diplomacy and warns of decisive force if needed as 14,000 Air Reservists are activated and the Enterprise task force stays on alert in Korea.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department continues the probe into the death of 19 month old Teresa Milo. Deputies take statements from her mother Geraldine Milo and boyfriend Daniel Patrick both held in jail. No charges filed yet. Teresa died at Willard Municipal Hospital after a hard blow to the head. She had burns on legs and buttocks and severe facial gashes and bruising.
North Korea aired a 40 minute interview with Cmdr Lloyd M Bucher claiming he and his Pueblo crew deserve criminal punishment. US officials dismissed the confession as a fabrication as tension rises off the Korean coast.
Northbound on Milan Avenue at 2 58 p m a three car crash damaged three vehicles. Dennis McCreary 17 David MacQueen 32 and Michael A Nickoli 18 were involved Nickoli cited for failing to stop in a safe distance MacQueen and Nickoli reported minor injuries. A separate incident at Deeble's Shell Service Station involved Ronald Kearney 16 aiding others and being pinned between two cars awaiting x rays. Fire caused by overheated heater left Mrs Harley Owen homeless and dog died. Harold Collier reports tax collections due by 4 p m Wednesday.
George Lawrence longtime Welfare Director for Huron County died at 10 a m at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital after years of poor health He resided at 7 East Chestnut and led the department since 1935 apart from brief service with the Veterans Service and six months travel for the American Legion in 1944 Funeral arrangements were not yet announced
