Evangelist Bob Jones Sr. Dies at 84 in South Carolina

Bob Jones Sr. founder of Bob Jones University and a leading fundamentalist died after a long illness in Greenville, South Carolina. The university offered no cause of death, noting only the extended illness. Jones rose to prominence as an evangelist in 1927 and built a school to counter stereotypes about old-time religion.

U.S. and allies report 5084 North Vietnamese killed in two weeks

Government spokesmen said U.S. and allied troops killed more than 5,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong in ground actions over the past two weeks. Most killings occurred in battles along the Laos Cambodia border with observers noting possible Communist activity resurgence in Laos. Last week 2,216 enemy were killed. combined with 2,868 the prior week brings total to 5,084 through Saturday.

Cambodian Arms Cache Foiled Plot Aimed at Sihanouk Tito

Cambodian authorities disclosed a large arms cache intended for assassination attempts against Prince Sihanouk and Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito. Police said the weapons included about 1,000 hand grenades and were hidden in Angkor ruins visited by Jacqueline Kennedy.

Jury Returns Indictments in Bellevue Area

The grand jury returned seven indictments, four public, two secret. Char lene Surgner and Mary Agee, both of Bucyrus, face grand larceny charges for taking money from purses in a Bellevue store. James R. Custer of Findlay is charged with breaking and entering. James J. Wise of Norwalk arrested the intruder. Wayvonne King of Bellevue indicted for assault with a deadly weapon against Officer John Bloxom with a shotgun. Donald J. Mears of Zion faces grand larceny for taking rings. One case resulted in no bill. Frank Farina of Bellevue, awaiting grand jury action on rape, was not indicted. The jury, after eight cases and 16 witnesses, found the jail satisfactory.

Jail Visitor Is Arrested While Waiting in Court

Bellevue man Joel Bruce Seal 21, of the Bellevue Trailer Park, visiting a friend at Huron County jail, was arrested in the courthouse on a Juvenile Court warrant accusing him of contributing to the delinquency of a minor by giving a juvenile beer. Bond set at 1500 cash or 3000 property.

Car wheels in reverse after crash injures two

Mrs. Lillian I. Self 65 of 274 West Monroe Street was admitted to Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital after a 9 30 a m crash at 120 West Main Street. Her car skidded cross centerline colliding with O Dell Holbrook driving westbound. Self’s wheel broke as impact threw her against the steering wheel. Her car reversed and struck a following truck driven by Roy Lines before bouncing into a snow bank. Holbrook released after minor injuries. Self cited for speed in excess of conditions.
