The 1968 Yearbook of American Churches reports total U S church membership at 125,778,656, up from 124,682,422 the prior year, but growth lags behind overall population. Figures come from 241 denominations and may not be fully current or accurate.
A weekend blizzard dumped over 12 inches in Norwalk and up to 18 inches on the ground, closing schools in Huron County and prompting traffic and parking restrictions. Road crews battled drifting snow, with 40 mph limits on the Ohio Turnpike and scattered outages reported. Officials warned of possible continued snow and advised only essential travel.

Four North Vietnamese Antonov 2 bombers attacked Muong Yut in NE Laos. Two were shot down. reports claim Nam Bac fortress fallen and Luang Prabang attacked. Premier Souvanna Phouma flew to Luang Prabang for talks as clashes widen along the Ho Chi Minh Trail region.
A six month old baby was treated at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital after inhaling carbon monoxide at a Norwalk car wash. The child Bobby Norwood Jr., 37% Norwood, was released after treatment. Firefighters responded to two car fires in Norwalk over the weekend with extensive vehicle damage. Minor injuries were reported as a car slid into a ditch on Gallup Road. A second fire occurred at 7 06 a.m. Sunday. The Huron County Health Council meeting and Farm Income Tax School were postponed or adjusted. The Huron County Republican Executive Committee plans to meet at Murray's Restaurant to fill a four year board term. Virgil Stevens of Willard received a 14 day jail term for drunken driving and leaving the scene. He was fined and ordered to pay court costs.
South Vietnam President Nguyen Van Thieu criticized the United States for leading peace efforts, saying the role belongs to Saigon. He warned that a unilateral U.S. peace move could aid Communist propaganda and jeopardize their shared goal.
James Hile, an ambulance driver, assisted in delivering Sherri Ann Dunn at her home in Norwalk at 3:30 am. The five pound two ounce, 16 inch premature newborn, born to Judy and Theodore Dunn on Route 18, and the mother are reported healthy at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital. The Dunns have two sons, Scott and Patrick, and Theodore works for Roth Brothers Construction.
