UPI reports Washington pressing South Vietnam to release some North Vietnamese POWs in hope of reciprocity for American captives. Vietnam typically releases a small number for Tet. last year 30 Communists were freed.
Norwalk ended 1967 with an overdrawn Huron County Banking Co. account by 315 149 dollars after paying Westinghouse Electric 429 000 for power plant equipment. Troops imposed a state of emergency in Guatemala City after machine gun ambush killed U S Army Col John D Webber Jr and Navy Lt Cmdr Ernest A Munro. Four U S personnel were attacked as they returned from the embassy leaving two wounded.
A propane torch used on a snow blower started a fire at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russel McPherson at 22 Maple Street. The blaze caused about 5000 dollars in damage, mainly to the back porch and kitchen. the couple stayed with a daughter, Mrs. Harold Myers, as repairs are awaited.
