Cleveland reports Mayor Carl Stokes weighs more than a dozen offers to host a regular show on local radio or television stations as other big city mayors do. The move follows discussions about his media future amid a busy political landscape.
Pope Paul VI named Luigi Cardinal Traglia as chancellor, Angelo Cardinal Dellacqua as papal vicar of Rome, and Egidio Cardinal Vagnozzi as prefect of economic affairs and finance minister, filling vacancies since February.
Four crashes occurred on area roads Friday. Orla Hartley lost control on Mason Road near Vermilion after allegedly falling asleep, striking a power pole. A New London school bus backed into a car on Butler Road injuring no one. driver Erswell cited for improper backing. Carl Burwell of Townline Road collided with Albert Quillen of Sandusky on Perkins Avenue. no citations issued and Quillen treated for a possible pinched nerve.

A 28 year old former high school track star from Shilo fled Norwalk Police Station early after being booked on a drunken driving charge. Police sought Rephard Beer after he left the station just after midnight. Officer Meese had arrested him on Benedict Avenue near railroad tracks for impaired driving. a 45 minute search failed to locate him. His car remained at the station.
President Johnson renews his push for a 10 percent surtax while facing a Vietnam funding constraint. Rep Wilbur Mills signals he will block a tax increase unless revenues are earmarked for Vietnam. Johnson plans a state of the union address and domestic Great Society measures amid war talks and a possible de escalation move.
Rerouted traffic returns as downtown Archbold reopens after gasoline fumes in sewers prompted a 12 block shutdown. Fire officials say fumes remain but no explosion risk. schools and 22 businesses begin to reopen.
Donald Manlowe president of Norwalk Truck Lines says the board has not fixed a new location but authorized vice president George Kovats to seek sites in Denver. If none found there the company will look elsewhere. A Denver site is likely, with a March 30 board meeting and possible action by the executive committee if a site is found before then.
Freezing rain starting around 1 a.m. paralyzed Huron County roads, with eight salt trucks deployed on main routes 20 18 224 and 250. Officials said ice would remain slippery as rain continued, while Norwalk police reported icy side streets and wet main highways.
