The United States warned the Soviet Union that ships entering Haiphong Harbor risk unintentional damage from combat actions by the U S and North Vietnam. State Department cited ongoing hostilities and precautions by U S pilots.
A Collins woman, Mrs. Douglas Beer, was beaten and admitted in fair condition to Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital after her young son called a neighbor who alerted the Sheriff’s Department. Her 23-year-old husband, Reer, pleaded guilty in Huron County Common Pleas Court and received six months in the county jail. Norwalk officer William Meese later picked him up in Horseshoe Bar.
Richard Vogt was elected president of the Volunteer Firemen's Association in Norwalk at the Thursday meeting held at the fire station. Elected as officers were Richard Cook as vice president and Richard O'Donnell as secretary, with Robert Eggleston as treasurer. Eugene Doughty and Dewey Varney were chosen as trustees for the Firemen's Dependents Fund, a state insurance style benefit for a fireman killed in service or his widow. The fund includes two city council members and one civilian chosen by the others.
Richard Murry, 37, of 23 North Railroad Street Greenwich, was convicted in Common Pleas Court of threatening and abusing a police officer. He was arrested Friday by Greenwich Police after an intoxicated incident. The sentence was suspended on payment of $25 costs and two years probation.
Cloudy windy conditions with snow flurries today and colder temperatures through Sunday. Friday highs near 18, lows around 4, humidity at 53 percent in the morning and 46 percent by afternoon. Births: Mr and Mrs Kenneth Missig of Monroeville welcomed a girl.

Five leaders of the antiwar movement including Benjamin Spock and Yale chaplain William Sloane Coffin Jr. were indicted for conspiring to encourage violation of draft laws. Officials say investigation continues and more charges may follow. Spock defended draft resistance and predicted jail if needed.
A Friday hearing in Columbus drew heavy opposition to Rhodes administration redrawing Ohio congressional districts. Congressmen and witnesses criticized ignored county lines while Harry Lehman urged preserving county borders even with up to 5 percent population deviation.
Congressman Charles Mosher said he will seek re election to Congress this year no matter how Ohio 13th district lines are drawn. He spoke in Norwalk during a listening session and criticized Gov. Rhodes reapportionment proposal. A Cleveland panel set January 26 for the state to approve a new redistricting plan as leaders begin work.
Run on five cent stamps ends today as new postal rates take effect at midnight. First class letters rise to six cents, air mail to ten. Postal cards become five cents, air mail cards eight. One cent stamps scarce at Norwalk Office, stamp machine sold out. six cent stamps also in short supply.
Eva S. Saladin, 71, of 31 Gray Street, was hit Friday by a car backing from a driveway at 17 Corwin Street. She was admitted in fair to good condition at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital with possible head injuries. The driver, Mattie Crase, 20, of 17 1/2 Corwin Street, said she checked the street and mirror before backing up and struck the trolley.
CAPE TOWN South Africa Dr Christian Barnard said Philip Blaiberg might undergo a second heart transplant if his body rejects the first new heart.
Congressman Charles Mosher spoke in Norwalk saying the United States faces the most crucial social and economic problems in its history. He warned about inflation, the tax policy, and Vietnam's drain on resources while criticizing monetary policy and the balance of payments deficit.
