Celeste Says He Shouldn't Have Broken Vote Tie
Columbus Ohio. Lt. Gov. Richard F Celeste regrets breaking the Nov 29 tie that pushed a legislative pay raise through. He says he should have forced Senate Democrats to trim the bill to meet Carters 7 percent guideline. The 28.6 percent raise for legislators and up to 31.5 percent for officials is law unless overturned. Celeste implied a deal between Gov Rhodes and House Speaker Riffe to pass the measure as is. He says he would retry by pushing for a bill within presidential guidelines. Celeste, due to leave office, plans a real estate partnership with his brother and sister.
