Burlington Ltar's Club President Otis Hulett announced Wilfred Heberg Mayville Wis won with a quip about building an affordable tiny house that couldn t be used. Honorable mentions mocked insurance claims and oversized corn and piranha haircuts as the club picked a unique yearly winner.
Gen Alexander Haig announced his resignation as Supreme Allied Commander Europe and commander in chief of U S Forces in Europe effective June 30. He will retire from both posts and gave the news at SHAPE near Mons. Haig, 54, took the SACEUR post in December 1974.
An Israeli diplomat said peace negotiations with Egypt will restart in Washington in mid January. Israel will send its negotiating team on a date proposed by Secretary of State Cyrus Vance who has cleared his calendar to resume mediation after talks stalled in November.
The city asks federal judge Robert B. Krupansky for access to documents from the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co and other defendants in its $325 million antitrust suit. The request, filed Tuesday, comes a month before trial and is blamed on Krupansky’s prior criticisms of Cleveland’s failure to pay a judgment.
The Tisbury Board of Health rejected a plan to build a harborside McDonald on Martha's Vineyard saying the site is unsuitable for waste water generation. Chairman Dr Michael Jacobs noted the site inspection and residents opposed fearing damage to the island's image.

Willard City Manager Paul Capelle would not confirm or deny rumors that Police Chief Glenn Seiple was forced to resign. Capelle cited personal reasons for Seiple's exit and a three month clash between police and city government. Sgt Dave Sattig named acting chief. Seiple declined comment.

In New Richmond Indiana UPI reports Sean Spencer four years old who lost his left arm to a circus lion is fading from nightmares and adjusting to life with one arm. His parents describe cautious optimism as he returns home from Riley Hospital after 19 days. Local items note welfare board meeting and public hearing for community development grants at 7 p.m. and sports bouts at St. Paul High School at 7 p.m.
Steve Bovia, a social worker and administrator for seven years in Columbus and Norwalk, was appointed circulation manager of the Reflector. The 32 year old replaces Kenneth Kosic, who held the post two years. Bovia oversees 90 carriers in Norwalk and seven area communities, plus nine motor route drivers. A Sandusky native, he studied social work at Ohio State University and has worked at Gladden Community House and the Alcohol Center of Huron County. He and his wife Gayle live in Greenwich with their four children.
