A 29 year old construction worker faces a six month license suspension for refusing the sobriety test under Ohio s implied consent law. Roger L Hamrick pleaded guilty to drunken driving receiving a $100 fine and a 30 day license suspension.
Prince Sihanouk approves President Johnson’s choice Chester Bowles to conduct reconciliation talks between Cambodia and the United States. Bowles, former ambassador to India, is expected to arrive within days as Hanoi signals possible peace talks if bombing ends.
Benedict became president of the Norwalk Park and Recreation Board replacing Robert Mason who remains secretary. Jim Lewellen was introduced as vice president with Mason and Austin Shadle. The group reviewed 1968 park plans and maintenance costs and noted flooded tennis courts for winter skating remain popular.

In Cape Town Dr Christian Barnard reports Philip Blaiberg in very good condition after a five hour heart transplant. The Blaiberg family sold exclusive film and interview rights to NBC sparking anger from Barnard and hospital officials over the deal and its impact on operating room access.
Huron County health officials asked Prosecutor Bernard Freeman to file for an injunction to close a private dump on the Huron River near Monroeville under a new state law banning riverbank refuse. The move follows complaints by neighbor Lydia Myer and notes that other county dumps may fall under the statute.
U S spokesmen said the Vietnam war toll surpassed 16000 Americans killed. By Dec 30 1967 total U S dead rose to 15997 with 185 killed 437 wounded and 12 missing in the last week. Final battles along South Vietnam's northern coast added to the count.
Multiple accidents across Huron and Seneca counties left two Attica women with injuries at Willard Memorial Hospital. Molly Williams sustained lacerations and possible head injuries after her stalled car was hit on U S 224. Anna Olds also received minor injuries in a separate U S 225 crash near the county line.
