Margaret Truman Daniel told reporters in Kansas City that her father, former President Harry S. Truman, is just fine and ready to go home after entering the hospital on February 2 for a sudden bout of flu. The visit came as Truman’s condition improved.
Sirhan B. Sirhan 24 objects to jurors reading his diaries as three notebooks from his Pasadena home are admitted in the Kennedy assassination trial. Police found the notebooks as investigators probe possible conspirators.
Miss Lucy Reynolds 78 of Sandusky dies from injuries in a crash on U S 42 when the car driven by her son Edward Reynolds left the road and hit a fence. Dwight D Eisenhower shows a smooth recovery after abdominal surgery with stable vitals and improving intake. Astronauts Neil Armstrong Edwin Aldrin Jim Lovell and Fred Haise move into the Quitman Mountains for a geology field trip in preparation for a moon landing mission.
Rep. Rogers C. B. Morton of Maryland stated at a Crawford County Lincoln Day dinner that his candidacy for Republican chairman is in limbo. He has not decided if he can take the role while remaining in the House. Bliss of Akron has resigned as national chairman after 1964 tenure.
Snow flurries fade tonight with mostly sunny skies on Wednesday and temperatures in the 30s. Highs in the 30s and lows in the upper 20s to low 30s, NW winds 10 to 15 mph. Norwalk 18 year old William James Andrews and 16 year old Barbara Lou Clapp were found dead in a parked car four miles southwest of Bellevue. Coroner Dr. Albert O Halloran ruled asphyxiation likely from carbon monoxide with the ignition on and heater used. The deaths are being treated as accidental with the car details and scene under investigation.
About 200 Negro students from John Hay High School stormed the office of city school Supt Paul Briggs in Cleveland shouting Black power. They blocked elevators, then moved to the auditorium vowing to stay until Briggs met their grievances including suspensions dress code and study hall changes. A Life magazine crew accompanied Briggs.
Dennis W. Fries 22 of Dogtown Road Monroeville was killed when his car overturned on State Route 547. His two passengers cousins Steven J. Bores 21 and Donald L. Bores 21 were injured. Fries recently returned from Germany with the 79th Engineering Division and was a 1965 Monroeville High School graduate.
Washington Street residents and city officials remain at an impasse over a proposed trailer court. A Feb. 4 council meeting drew protest reps, engineer George Cunitz, and developer Richard Enzor with attorney Robert Wiedemann as the State Board of Health permit lingers.
President Nixon dined with Queen Elizabeth II and visited the House of Commons in session. A planned large anti Nixon demonstration outside Buckingham Palace drew only a few dozen protesters as Nixon was greeted by several thousand supporters and met lawmakers during the visit. The event highlighted NATO detente and bipartisan support for Nixon's stance on consulting allies before any summit with the Russians.
