Dr Timothy Leary urges young people not to use psychedelics and to follow disciplined activism. He cites the Weatherman and Black Panthers as models and urges tightening organization over clowning and tripping.
Ohio Highway Patrol reports six dead and two injured in a car truck collision on Interstate 70 near Newark. One seriously injured person was identified as Harold W. Morton of New Bedford Massachusetts. Dispatchers believe all car occupants were students with little or no IDs.
Mendel J. Davis, who joined Rep. L. Mendel Rivers’ staff after high school, defeats three veterans in the Charleston Democratic primary for the seat. With 218 of 219 precincts in, Davis led Gaillard, Graham, and Hartnett by a wide margin, with 26,873 votes to 11,997 for Gaillard and lower tallies for the others.
Cleveland Safety Director George O Connor told the Temple Men's Club that suburbanites are safer on city streets than at home explaining that most homicides involve people who know each other well and adding your wife is safer away from you.
Rep. John Galbraith of Maumee urges state funding for sterilization surgery for welfare mothers over 21. He also calls for a $500 bonus for those who volunteer. The proposal would apply only to mothers on relief and would be voluntary.

The My Lai trial of Lt. William L. Calley Jr was delayed for over an hour as jurors were taken in secret sessions with the judge Col Reid W Kennedy. Calley faces possible death or life imprisonment if convicted for the killings in My Lai Vietnam.
Willard high school faced a bomb threat with police sweeping the building. Students were told to listen to WLKR for updates and may miss Thursday classes, with Saturday makeup planned. This follows a prior bomb scare at the school.
Huron County Board of Elections releases new Norwalk precinct maps to reflect ward changes under one man one vote. Area bounded by Main Marshall League and Hester becomes precinct 3 D, with 3 A 3 B 3 C unchanged. Second and Fourth Wards increase from three to four precincts, maps and voting place lists forthcoming.
About 15 rural mailboxes were reported missing after a vandalism spree in the Centerton Havana area Monday night. The windows of two cars and a Havana Tavern window were broken, apparently from mailboxes thrown through them. The Sheriff's Department and U S Postal Inspectors continue the investigation.
Ken Harrelson of the Cleveland Indians says he may retire from baseball if the team fails to have a super year and turn to professional golf. He expects a strong season, aims for top homer and RBI totals, and notes his pride in being an Indian despite past injuries. He arrived with his fiancée and many luggage pieces, still confident he can earn a living in golf.
Katharine Hepburn was attacked and bitten by a hammer wielding intruder hiding in her father's home in West Hartford. The injured actress, starring in Coco at the Bushnell, was treated and released. Louella G. West, 55, of Richmond Virginia, a recently discharged employer of Hepburn, was arrested on burglary with personal violence charges and held on ten thousand dollars bond awaiting arraignment.
A one car collision on Ohio 601 east of Norwalk injured three passengers in a vehicle driven by 18 year old Charles H. Baker Jr. All four occupants were from Collins and Don Myers and Denise Myers were treated and released. The driver escaped injury after losing control on a slippery highway and striking a power pole.
