Seven Year Old Boy Killed In Went Road Accident
A seven year old boy, Jonathan W. Trembley, died after running into a northbound car driven by Robert M. Fry near his Went Road home. He was waiting for a church bus and died of a broken neck at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital. Funeral is set for Eastman Funeral Home in New London.

Columbus Firm Low On Bridge Bid In Ripley Township
Huron County Commissioners opened three bids for a Townline Road 12 bridge in Ripley Township this morning. Reliance Universal of Columbus won the contract with a bid of 5,095 dollars, beating Yost Co. of Decatur Indiana at 5,585 and Roth Construction Corp. of Nor with 5,990. The new bridge will replace the one south of North Fairfield.

Drivers Avoid Head-On Crash on Chenango Road Hillcrest
Two cars narrowly avoided a head on collision on Chenango Road near Clarksfield Friday as Leroy A. Stober 29 Wakeman and Ireland Royd 18 New London drove off the right side. Royd’s car then veered back, left the road into a ditch striking small trees. Neither was injured. Royd was charged with reckless driving.

Union and New Departure avert Sandusky strike
Local 913 of the United Auto Workers and New Departure-Hyatt Bearing Division officials settled at 11 p.m. Sunday ending a contract dispute over seniority overtime and working conditions that had kept 2,000 members without a contract since September 1970. Ratification by members is expected with a vote on Saturday. About 200 workers live in the Norwalk-Milan area. The plant had laid off half its 2,600 employees during last year’s GM strike and operates with a reduced staff.
