Global League appoints umpire supervisor and lists team roster

Bill McKinley, 58, veteran umpire of 20 years, named supervisor of umpires for the new Global Baseball League. The league includes teams in Tokyo, Yokohama, San Juan, Caracas, Jersey City, and Mobile, with players from diverse regions. The former American League official retired in 1966. Gabriele Crespi says Gina Lollobrigida will walk in a month after knee surgery and resume acting. Western Reserve Celebrates Its Perfect Season

The 1968-69 Western Reserve Roughriders finished undefeated after a 67-66 win over Edison at Edison Gym. A sheriff’s patrol and fire engines led the postgame fan procession through Milan and Norwalk to Western Reserve High School for a victory celebration. Coach Jim Irons received a trophy from his Pennsylvania parents as fans chanted We’re Number One and recalled 18 straight victories.

Fire Evacuates Norwalk Theater After Man Sets Clothes Ablaze

About 70 people evacuated the Norwalk Theater when Harold W. Puckett fell asleep in a room near the stage and lit his clothing on a rheostat, starting a small fire during the 10:30 p.m. show. Projectionist James E. Lee helped extinguish the flames, and the theater cleared for roughly 45 minutes. Puckett, cited for disturbance, claimed intoxication and sleep deprivation. He reported losing $18 in his billfold, with traces of burned money found.

Townships to Receive Extra $3,000 From Auto Tax

County Commission Chair Donald Robertson told township trustees that each of Huron County's townships will get an additional $3,000 from the $5 auto license tax. The revenue, raised by increasing license fees from $10 to $15, funds road improvements and totals about $120,000.
